Colonial – means a lot of different things to different people, but to the ancestors of the fist immigrants in the U.S. it meant hard work that was dirty and greasy. They helped take care of the shops by cleaning, and at times would help with other duties like folding the papers, or type setting the iron block letters. Printer’s colonial wore clothing that could include a heavy leather apron, or not. It helped keep the ink dyes that were often made of onions and other products, from getting on their clothes for colonial printers.

It’s hard to imagine that they actually ran out of ink too. It wasn’t a simple process though to click a computer screen and go on the Internet to order more ink. Nor was it possible to slip a check in the mail to England and order their printer parts or paper. England didn’t want them printing in the first place, especially later on, with all that revolutionary propaganda. Being colonial was not popular was far as the English were concerned. Printers did other things too besides folding paper, typesetting, and making their own ink. They had to be a colonial printer and binder of their publications too. It cost for machines, and there’re wasn’t cheap colonial printers.
